Phase 5: Transferring Good Practice in Action into your own Teaching

It's time to apply your newly acquired knowledge and skills into practice by creating a lesson or an activity that will propel you to try out and explore new ideas in your own teaching context. You don't have to plan a complete lesson, but rather choose an activity to try out.  For example, you have discovered your while-listening activities are always the same and are not very effective, so you want to create a more effective while-listening sequence. 

The length and duration of the implementation is up to you - it can be as little as 10 minutes or a whole 45 minute lesson.  

Materials required:

• The Self-Evaluation of Teaching Practices
• The rough Lesson Plan Template.
• A Coursebook you're using with your class.

Study Instructions: First, there are two ways you can choose to implement this phase. 

• You can use the lesson plan template to plan your lesson or activity. 
  
• Plan a lesson as you would usually plan your lessons. 

1. Go through the Self-Evaluation of Teaching Practices and look at areas that you found yourself wanting to explore further or try out new e.g. developing a listening lesson or while-listening activity.
   
2. Now plan your lesson and try it out with your learners!
   
3. In the discussion forum, once your lesson has been implemented you may want to share the experience!
